Part of this project’s design program called for the project to attempt the highest Leed rating possible. The City of Rohnert Park wanted to be able to demonstrate ‘green’ design alternatives to the public when it came to the remodeled city hall. As part of the design team, Landarc was challenged to attain all the available points it could for the project. Landarc Associates design provided for a biofiltration element that incorporated native grasses that treated the water from the parking lot and building roof rain leaders to biologically filter the water prior to allowing it into the nearby creek. The design also included permeable paving of various types, including one allowable for disabled parking areas. The plant palette used drought tolerant plant material, and reclaimed water as well as high efficiency irrigation components including an irrigation controller that receives weather information from NOAA weather systems.
